About Mellissa Arena
Mellissa was born and raised at the “Jersey Shore” and moved to South Jersey in 2017. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University in Psychology and then pursued her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University. Mellissa has worked in the substance abuse and mental health field since 2013. She has assisted individuals who struggle with co-occurring disorders in different levels of care, including acute partial hospitalization programs, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, and traditional outpatient. Melissa believes that there is no “one-size-fits-all” approach when it comes to mental health treatment and strives to meet each consumer with an approach that best fits their needs. In her free time, Mellissa enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, and spending as much time outdoors as possible.

After finishing with a B.A. in Psychology from Rutgers University, Mellissa started working for a crisis response program designed to assist consumers who struggled with mental health issues following the devastation of Super Storm Sandy. Mellissa has always been passionate about helping others and was able to take that passion and dedicate it towards assisting consumers in overcoming their struggles with mental health. While obtaining her M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Mellissa found a strong passion for assisting others through co-occurring challenges involving mental health and substance abuse.
Why are you passionate about providing mental healthcare?
Mellissa is aware that mental health challenges impact people in different ways, and each person’s needs differ. These needs must be met with compassion, understanding, and individualized treatment plans. Mellissa also understands that mental health and substance abuse challenges can impact a family unit and has found a particular love for assisting individuals and their families through these challenges.
