About

Alicia is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York. She's lived in NYC, Long Island, and upstate New York. Alicia earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees at the State University at Albany. She has worked in community mental health and private practice settings, addressing a variety of diagnoses, including substance use disorder, anxiety, and depression. Alicia approaches therapy by understanding the client- how they think, how they are affected by emotions, and how their values match up with their actions. She uses a mix of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Alicia believes it's important to meet a client where they are and provide alternate views to help with change. She believes the goal of therapy is to increase psychological flexibility in order to deal with the unknowns of life. Alicia travels or spends time with her family and 3 dogs when she is not in session.

Why Healthcare

Alicia's passion for mental health started within her own family. She recognized that her family could have benefitted from therapy and she could be the support other families need. Her passion for mental health clicked when terminating with a client during her internship. She saw the consistency paying off for them. As she continued working in the field, she saw what it meant for clients to have someone who could validate their experiences or put words to their emotions.
