About

Kia seeks to work with clients from diverse, multicultural communities in hopes of improving their functioning, building on their incredible strengths, and helping them feel more empowered in an often hostile, invalidating, and oppressive world. After earning her Master's in Social Work and an independent clinical social work license, Kia went on to work in a variety of settings with diverse, multicultural populations, including child welfare (specifically therapeutic foster care), school social work, community mental health in both outpatient and in-home settings, and most recently, college mental health in a university counseling center.

Throughout her career, Kia has worked with diverse, multicultural populations of all ages, and she always utilizes a trauma-informed, culturally responsive, relational/interpersonal, and humanistic treatment approach. Kia establishes a strong therapeutic relationship and alliance with all of her clients, and her clients feel the care, concern, and compassion she has for them and the work that she does. Kia's clients know that she does this work genuinely and sincerely from her heart, and she has a deep level of empathy for their suffering.

Moreover, Kia takes into account the client's cultural background and cultural experiences as well as their individual trauma history and collective trauma history. This allows her to culturally adapt interventions and tailor her therapeutic approach to meet their needs while highlighting their strengths and protective factors. Clients feel seen, heard, and understood when working with Kia, which, in turn, draws them to her and makes them really want to work with her in therapy. Overall, clients feel validated, affirmed, and empowered when working with Kia, which, in turn, helps to promote their growth and healing.

In her personal life, Kia enjoys spending time with family and friends (especially her 4-year-old daughter). She also enjoys traveling, reading, laughing out loud, and exploring new cultures and languages.
