About
Dara has worked extensively with clients with Trauma/PTSD, ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, Borderline Personality Disorder, eating disorders, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Dara's background is in Trauma-informed therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Equine Assisted Therapy. Her passion is helping clients identify and use their skills to improve their lives. Dara enjoys working with clients of all ages and is motivated to help others find coping skills they like and will use. Dara does not believe in a single modality approach with any client and recognizes that every client requires a specialized and tailored approach to help clients achieve their goals. Dara enjoys working with clients who are often deemed "challenging" and finds they are often the most rewarding to work with. Dara worked as an executive functioning tutor online during the pandemic to help students struggling with executive dysfunction in the home. Dara has also been riding horses for over 15 years in various disciplines, enjoys rock climbing, and has previously worked as a dog groomer. Dara believes life is about finding balance and likes to live by the "work hard, play harder" mantra.

• Experience in Equine Assisted Therapy in a trauma informed modality.
While in formal and ongoing education, Dara has found a passion for animal assisted therapy, specifically equine assisted therapy. Dara had a fulfilling opportunity as an MSW intern to intern with an equine assisted therapy program for those with complex trauma. Dara has found a real love and passion for combining her background as an equestrian with her new found interest in helping those with trauma. Studies have found that horses have shown to be the best animals to use when working with clients with trauma due to horses being vulnerable animals of prey and a great example of "fight or flight". Dara hopes to one day be able to utilize her skills as an animal lover, equestrian and social worker to offer traditional mental health counseling as well as equine assisted therapy while specializing in trauma.
Why Healthcare
Dara passionately believes in the importance of mental healthcare because mental health is part of overall health. Dara was always the person her friends would come to with their relationship problems and daily stressors, often staying up all night consoling friends over break ups, helping with communication issues and helping friends identify their needs in a relationship. Through helping friends and family members, Dara discovered she has a penchant for mental healthcare.
