Nutritional Services

Harmony Bay provides Nutrition Services as a part of a Holistic And Comprehensive approach to promote Well Being In all aspects of an Individual’s Life.

Nutrition and diet play a critical role in mental health, but sometimes this goes unnoticed. Traditionally, most people only link nutrition with physical health. However, studies have shown that proper nutrition fuels our body and helps it function by affecting our cognitive process, emotions, and preventing chronic diseases.

Researchers have seen a direct correlation between the modern “Western” diet and a decline in mental health in much of the world. As a result, 1-in-4 suffer from mental health conditions like mood disorders, general anxiety, depression, and eating disorders.

For all of these mental health conditions, a nutritional therapy program can help within holistic mental health treatment via outpatient programs and/or telehealth treatment.

What is Nutritional Services Program

Live a healthy lifestyle

Nutritional services at Harmony Bay are designed to support individuals to improve their nutritional status, whether due to a health condition, disordered eating, or simply wanting to live a healthy lifestyle.

A registered dietician will obtain information from you during the nutritional assessment process and learn more about your desired goals. Then, collaboratively with the dietician, you will formulate a treatment plan based on the information provided and the dietician’s assessment.

The registered dietician may also provide education and counseling during the assessment process.

After meeting for the first initial appointment, you will meet with a registered dietician for additional visits to review your goals and progress and receive nutritional education or counseling.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF IMPROVING & HAVING HEALTHY NUTRITION?

Eating foods that contain vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants will nourish the brain and body. In contrast, a diet high in sugar and processed chemicals can worsen mental health systems and make you feel sluggish and tired.

We must eat a whole and balanced diet to fight fatigue and boost our mood. A healthy diet includes a full range of vegetables, fruits, legumes, fish, whole grains, and healthy fats.

Unhealthy diets are proven to lead to problems like diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and obesity and are known as one of the leading causes of early death in America. In addition, those who eat a diet high in sugar, sodium, and saturated fat are more likely to develop depression, anxiety, and trouble focusing.

As you rebuild your cells with proper nutrition, you’ll notice a significant difference in how you feel physically and mentally.

INCORPORATING DIET & NUTRITION WITH MENTAL HEALTH TREATMENT

Nutritional counseling may not cure anxiety, depression, or addiction. But it nurtures your body and mind so that you’re in the best position to heal. In addition, it provides a fulfilling and sustainable solution to help you manage symptoms by being aware of what you eat.

Whether you are eating too much or too little, this can significantly impact your health. Changing up your nutrition can be a great addition to traditional therapy. Our licensed therapists and psychiatrists may recommend a nutritionist to help you manage your diet and practice mindful eating.

You can overcome mental health challenges through holistic treatment and learn to live a more fulfilling life. If you have a mental health disorder, know that proper nutrition is essential to the healing puzzle. And a nutritional therapy program can help you learn to heal yourself–instead of hurting yourself–with food.
