Gender Identity Therapy

According to the Human Rights Campaign, gender identity is the innermost concept of self as male, female, a blend of both, or neither. Gender identity is how individuals perceive themselves and what they call themselves. It can correspond or differ from a person’s assigned sex at birth. Gender identity can be fluid, meaning it can shift. A person’s gender identity can change every day or even every few hours. Gender identity exists on a spectrum rather than binary. It has come to the forefront of equal rights in recent years more than ever. But very few people are truly educated on what gender identity means and who it affects regularly. We hope to help people get a better understanding of Gender Identity Therapy.

WHAT IS INVOLVED IN GENDER IDENTITY THERAPY?

Identifying and discovering your identity, including your gender identity, can be an exciting yet scary and overwhelming time. Our gender identity treatment center includes individual therapy. Individual therapy aids in providing a safe, non-judgmental, compassionate place to process your gender identity. Personal therapy services will help you discover yourself. Group therapy services may also be considered to aid in increasing support and skill-building.

When working on gender identity, a therapist may aid in helping you understand the following:

  • Gender identity: Woman, man, genderqueer, genderless
  • Gender expression: Masculine, feminine, gender-neutral, androgynous
  • Pronouns: He, she, they, ze
  • Attracted to (emotionally)
  • Attracted to (physically)

Harmony Bay proudly provides LGBTQIA+ care by ensuring all our staff is educated and trained on gender identity and respectful of all identities.
