About
Malissa is an empathic and transparent counselor who uses a combination of therapies (Person-Centered, CBT, DBT) to help clients identify the root of their issues. Once identified, she encourages clients to address and resolve past and present conflicts (personal, familial, career-related, etc) that impede optimal functioning. As a result, clients will actively engage in activities that will assist in insight development, increased self-confidence, and improved self-esteem. Malissa encourages the client to work towards a transformative experience versus symptom management.
Malissa has worked in various professional settings, which has increased her sensitivity when working with diverse clients. Her professional experience extends but is not limited to corrections, urgent psychiatric care, courts, social agencies, group therapies, private practice, telemedicine, and teletherapy. Malissa has been trained in CBT, DBT, for individuals and groups, and crisis intervention. Malissa has also worked in special population houses in corrections, including Transgender and HIV/AIDS units. Malissa conducted virtual groups for two years during COVID and has also counseled both premarital and marital counseling sessions for issues including conflict, ineffective communication, and infidelity. Malissa has additionally helped college students and women transitioning through life's stages (relationships, marriage, parenting, divorce, academic and career pursuits).

Why Healthcare
As a first-generation immigrant woman with a multiracial background, Malissa was not allowed to express and accept her true identity, which resulted in her growing into a very confused adult. Embarking on her journey of self-discovery in the last decade, Malissa has learned that she is one of many individuals who have silently suffered due to inadequate parental, social, environmental, academic, and career support. Therefore, her main goal is to help make the delivery of therapeutic support services available to all, especially those within marginalized communities. This is why Malissa has enjoyed teletherapy since 2020; it has extended her ability to connect with more clients.
