About

Tom is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with Supervisory Designation, a Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Clinical Supervisor, and an Internationally Certified Counseling Supervisor. Tom earned his Master's Degree in Community Counseling from Kent State University. Tom has experience counseling adolescents and adults.

Tom's approach to counseling is eclectic, but often he uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which involves helping clients gain awareness of and change negative patterns of thinking and behavior. Tom also utilizes Motivational Interviewing, which is a practical, empathetic and short-term process that takes into account how difficult it is to make life changes, and works to assist clients in accessing the internal motivation they need to change behavior. Tom's strives to provide an environment of safety, empowerment, and healing, especially with his clients who have experienced trauma in their lives.

Though Tom has worked with various clientele, he especially enjoys helping people with anxiety uncover the underlying causes of worries and fears, learn how to relax, look at situations in new ways, and develop better coping and problem-solving skills. Tom also works with people who are dealing with depression on how to transform the way they think and behave to help ease their symptoms. Tom also specializes in working with people who are struggling with substance use disorders, mood disorders, stress management, trauma, and PTSD.
