With the new year, you’ve decided it’s time to get therapy. Maybe you’re struggling to come to terms with childhood abuse. Perhaps you are having a hard time controlling your anger. Or, maybe, you’re suffering from depression or anxiety, and you’re looking for relief. There are a variety of reasons why you might be seeking treatment. However, you aren’t sure how to find a therapist. At Harmony Bay, we want to help you with that troublesome first step. We can offer several reasonable options for finding a therapist. Conversely, you can enroll in one of our treatment programs and get the individualized therapy you need.
Ask Someone You Know
If you’re like most people, you go to your doctor when you have a stomach bug or another physical problem. They may treat you in their office, or they may refer you to another doctor. Similarly, if you tell your doctor that you’re struggling with your mental health, they may be able to send you to a therapist who can meet your needs.
Additionally, friends and family members may have a recommendation. Many people in the United States go to therapists; your friends and family may be in that number. While their therapist may not be the right fit for you, they can refer you to a different professional that may be.
Use School, Work, or Insurance Company Resources
Depending on where you work, your job may offer an in-house therapist. If they don’t, more often than not, they can refer you to one. Going to see a work-sponsored therapist can be helpful and keep the costs down.
Universities and schools also often employ therapists. For instance, you may remember going to a guidance counselor to schedule your classes in high school. These counselors are usually either licensed therapists, or they can refer you to one.
A third option is to call your insurance company and see if they can recommend a therapist for you. By doing this, you can find a therapist that will work with your insurance.
How to Find a Therapist? Use the Internet!
The Internet is often our first step to finding anything from a nearby pizza place to figuring out if your symptoms are from a cold or a life-threatening disease. Surprisingly, it can also help you find a therapist. Googling “therapists near me” can help you find a therapist, and get reviews. Then you can figure out if they can give you the treatment you need.
